Crossroads Radio meet-and-greet

Each year, the Talley Trio’s record label hosts an event where groups can chat with the artists and get liners for their radio programs. Here’s a video of Lauren Talley explaining what happens:

Here she records one:

Here’s Debra discussing her favorite hymn with a radio DJ:

And as a special bonus, the Inspirations are on the same label. Here is their baritone, Donald Duck (who looks remarkably like Melton Campbell), recording a liner:

I caught up with the Talley Trio right after their soundcheck. They discuss tonight’s set:

Classics 1: Can You Guess It?

So. We’ve begun work on our new classic gospel songs CD.  We decided to make this more fun by letting you guess the song(s) we are working on.  We’re gonna give you some clues but you’ll never hear the song lyrics: first we’ll say something about the song, then you’ll see us around the piano at Crossroads studio planning the arrangement, then you can listen to an mp3 of the finished music track.  From these clues, see if you can guess the name of the song. What Are Your Favorite Gospel Classics?

NQC 2008: Wrap-up

I only had access to a moderately slow Internet connection during the week, so I could not get up all the photos and video clips that I took. Here is a wrap-up post with the remaining highlights.

Here is a photo gallery with pictures from the week–each of their mainstage appearances, their booth, and of some of their other activities from the week. If you click each picture you can see a larger version, and if you click the larger version, it pulls up the full-size picture.

I posted the first of two videos from the Talley Trio’s Tuesday sound check. Here is the other:

While I got clips from their Thursday mainstage appearance up, Tuesday’s and Saturday’s had to wait until now.

On Tuesday, they sang “God is Great, Good, and Merciful,” “Winds of This World,” “The Broken Ones,” “The Healer,” and “Searchin’.” Greater Vision came up on stage for “Searchin’.” I got clips of several of the songs.

God is Great, Good and Merciful:

The Broken Ones:

The Healer:

On Saturday, they sang “Winds Of This World,” “Too Much to Gain to Lose,” “Orphans of God,” and “Testify.”

“Too Much to Gain”:

Roger Talley on piano during “Orphans”:

…and Lauren on vocals:

By the way, for coverage of the rest of the National Quartet Convention, check out my website, SouthernGospelBlog.com.

Thank you to Crossroads (specifically Mickey Gamble) and the Talley Trio for the opportunity to guest-blog here this past week or so. It was an enjoyable and memorable week, and I hope you have enjoyed seeing some of the highlights.
