And yes, Debra’s cell phone did indeed go off right as the song was starting. Lauren said afterwards that she was about to burst out laughing, and then she realized that the studio musicians in the next room hadn’t heard it. With how perfectly the introduction was turning out, she didn’t want to lose the take, either, so she managed to start singing as though nothing had happened!

Roger introduces the song and then, after some discussion about the arrangement, they record a scratch (temporary) vocal while the musicians lay down the track. (When the vocals are cut, Debra will sing verse two, but since Lauren was at the microphone, already had the headphones on, and knew the verse, she did it here just to guide the musicians.)

Debra started the day with prayer. The group sang a song and Lauren sang a solo song before Lauren’s session.

Lauren began her session by sharing the story that gave birth to the Songs in the Night book and CD.

About two years ago, she went through an illness that had her largely confined to her bed or the couch for about three months. During that time, she sought God as to why she had to go through that trial. The book draws from the Bible study she did during those months; the CD is of the songs that carried her through that time. During this session, she shared the first Bible study from the book, on Psalm 77. She finished the session by singing two songs from the new CD, ”Songs in the Night” and “The Extra Mile.”

For those of you who can’t be here, a video camera crew is catching this on tape so we can watch it online some time in the near future.

Also, the promised special announcement is here.
